Geico Pig GIF - Geico Pig Pinwheel GIFs

One of Cody’s teachers had an activity today that required the students to pick a gif that they felt represented how they felt about going back to school. Cody picked this one.

It makes me so happy that both boys are enjoying their first week of school, virtual as it may be.

I wish I could say the same about my feelings. We are being told to use an entirely new teaching/learning platform that we have little to no training on as of now. It does not seem at all friendly to the user, especially if that user is an elementary aged student. Meet the teacher is Monday and live instruction starts on Tuesday. I think I cried three times today. Oh how I wish we could use Google Classroom, but it is not my call to make.

I am holding on to the pig and the pinwheel. I am focusing on the fact that the boys are off to a great year and I will do what I can to get my pinwheel moving, even if that feels like I am spinning around in circles.

  1. Being married to a teacher, I feel your frustration. It’s such a difficult time all around–teachers, students, parents, administrators (my hubs is also the vice principal). It’s just so ugh ugh ughity. Glad you have your happy kids to cling to. (And a loving cat!!)

Absolutely! I would not care to be in the role of administration right now. Good luck to your husband and I hope things are going as smoothly as possible for him and his staff and families. Yes, having my kids happy and settled with their own schooling takes a huge load off my shoulders. (And having orange cat James hugs everyday helps too!)

  2. It must be very hard and frustrating – these are such difficult times! Please believe in yourself, even if everything is new I am sure you will find a way to make things work!

It’s a whole new world for teacher and student alike. Hang in there.. and grab that pinwheel!

A new platform and no training is very scary. I feel for you! How will you meet the parents? Zoom? Hang in there, and know you’re not alone.

We are suppose to use the newly adopted LMS for all functions of our day. They are recognizing the collective overload and frustration and allowing us to use Google Meet for the first week or two. There is a build in conferencing component to our platform, but it is not very user friendly. I meet my students and their families tomorrow for a brief time and then classes start T-F half days with a focus on SEL. Real teaching starts on the 17th. I hope to have everything somewhat figured out by then.

This sounds like jumping off a 10 meter platform. I hope the jump becomes comfortable before you hit the water. How did the student & family meet go? Was it in person or on Zoom? I’m cheering you with pom-poms!
