For several years I have wanted to plant blueberry bushes in our yard. For a variety of reasons I have not gotten around to it.
This weekend, to celebrate the newfound stability in our lives, I planted three great blueberry bushes.
What better way to embrace the ability to grow roots than to plant bushes that will provide berries for years to come?

I thought so. They look great and should do well in the sunny spot I picked for their home.
They will flourish I’m sure! What a great idea to do this now…
I sure hope they flourish although I don’t think I will see many berries at the rate the boys have been checking the bushes for ripe ones.
You will look at those plants every year and remember why they were planted and every time you eat a pie that is made with those blueberries, you will remember. It’s a very lovely idea and a nice way to remember.
I liked the idea of planting a bush that will continue to give for years to come. I don’t see many pies coming from these berries as the boys love blueberries and eat them as soon as they even look slightly blue!
Been picking my blueberries these last couple of weeks. Somehow they end up right in my mouth.
I am the same way, once picked the blueberry has a very short shelf life (and actually never even sees a shelf.) Delicious little suckers those berries are. 🙂
Cool. I want a blueberry pie when they are ready. I figure you have to make some anyway for pie day.
I have never had a blueberry pie and suspect these will be pick and eat bushes as they are so good right off the bush.
No excuses accepted.

A great idea. I tried to grow some but our climate seems to be too hot for them. Sigh!

We have several raspberry bushes in our yard, and I never once made a pie out of them. The berries get gobbled up very quickly and we have enjoyed eating raspberries for years. Good luck with the blueberries! I thought about planting blueberries too, but we have a hard enough time keeping up with the berries we already have. I buy blueberries at the store, but I bet the homegrown ones will taste better. Have fun!
I love raspberries and would have the same problem you have in that they would never make it to a pie. The blueberries are delicious! The boys were with me when we picked out our bushes at the local nursery and they sampled the berries from several of the bushes while we were there. I think by the time I decided on the three bushes, all the other bushes were void of ripe berries! 🙂

I have not found a good blueberry U-Pick place near our house. The berry bushes were not hard to plant, although it was tiring work getting the holes wide and deep enough. It did not take long before the birds noticed the bushes and started sampling the berries. Next year I will have to net them so the birds don’t get them all! I’ve loved to have some bushes but… I do not have room in my * english cottage * garden :)in fact looks like a jungle -only flowers and very, very small !
