Lazy Summer Days

It is finally starting to feel like summer here in our little patch of the Pacific Northwest!  After a quick breakfast we donned warm weather attire – shorts and tanks for the boys and a cute skirt and spaghetti strap top for me, loaded the car with sand toys and a picnic lunch, and headed to our favorite park.  We did some of this:

Rockin' the swings!

ate a somewhat nutritious lunch, and then the boys entertained themselves feeding imaginary Martians plates of woodchips and sand.  You know, a typical day at the park.  Oh and we made a new friend.

His name tag said "Sparky" but the boys renamed him "Sparkler"

After a couple of hours in the sun we packed up and headed home for more outside play.  We busted out the water table, slip and slide, crazy-wavy-armed-sprinkler-guy and our small sandbox that we have converted into a wading pool.  Popsicle were consumed by all.  And I got a nice picture of our dog Dexter lounging next to a dump truck.  Pretty nice day all around.

Dexter and dump truck.

Right before bedtime the boys treated Husband and I to a show.  There are variations on this nighttime show but they usually consist of the boys in pajamas jumping around on their beds to musical toys and a reading light conveniently converted into a spotlight.  Tonight, with a bit of flair, Cody pulled out a fist full of paper streamers he had carefully collected from some 4th of July fireworks, and proceeded to gleefully toss them into the air.  Teeth were brushed, stories were read and it is now time for a beer and some mindless TV.

And so it begins

I know how it happened but sometimes I find my head still spinning with the rapidness of it all.  My husband and I  got busy, went all the way, emailed the stork and in 2006 bundle #1 came.  Two years later we texted the same stork and he arrived with bundle #2.  Suddenly we became a family of four (six if you include our two geriatric dogs and eight if you want to throw in the neighbor’s cats who spend much of their days hanging out with us).  All of this tends to lead to a lot of dirt, fur, and chaos being tracked into my life that my vacuum cleaner can’t quite keep up with.

I have traded in my dance club going, happy hour drinkin’, impromptu Mexico with friends road trippin’ 20’s for nose wiping, bum wiping, Raffi and ABC dancing, impromptu beach and park trippin’ 30’s (+).  Crazy but true.  So here I am and sometimes things must be said that I cannot say since I am always around two small boys who repeat things that I have said and should not have said.  Oops.

I don’t know what I am doing people.  I mean, I just upgraded from my much-loved eight year old flip phone to a new and sleek smart phone less than two weeks ago.  I figured, why not try my hand at blogging and see what happens.  I shall write as if there is an audience out there just to keep it interesting.

And so it begins…
