Front yard, backyard. Pictures from within our safe space.
Why is it that “front yard” is two words, but “backyard” is one? I find it rather bothersome.

Do you find it bothersome or bother some? π
Bothersome? It might bother some, of which I am not one.
Itβs both. π https://brians.wsu.edu/2016/05/19/backyard-back-yard/
Indeed it is! Your research inspired me to do a bit of my own and apparently it is acceptable to use either but backyard is more common overall, specifically as an adjective or a noun. I rather prefer backyard to back yard myself. But now I am wondering if the words front yard feel a bit cheated, only being allowed one proper spelling and all.
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment (a well researched one, at that).
