Chasing the Clutter Monster

I seem to spend a lot of time trying to organize stuff.  I very rarely set out to do such a thing; I just sort of bump into it.  Take for instance the other morning.  I open my closet to pick out what to wear and instead my eyes fall on a couple of wayward pillows crammed in the back corner.  A more appropriate place for them would be the bathroom closet where the extra sheets and blankets reside but I am pretty sure there is no room.  Just to make sure this is the case I go look in that closet.  Towels, sheets, blankets, a dusty scale, an iron I may have used once in the late 90’s, and a basket of once organized dog items including brushes and toenail clippers.  Okay, I can just quickly take everything out, refold and reposition and voila!  Nope, still won’t fit.

While I struggle to make room for the pillows in what I deem to be the correct closet, the boys have abandoned the cardboard garage they had created in the living room filled with various toys and other tripping hazards.  They want to play with play-doh but can not get the lids off.  We first have to move the markers, crayons, and paper off their little table to make room for this new activity.  I help them with this and on my way back to the closet I am distracted by little clouds of dog hair tripping merrily along in the front entryway.  Easy enough.

After vacuuming the entire house, stopping once or twice to help the boys put away the play-doh, I head back to the bedroom to put away a couple of pairs of shoes.  And there looking at me like two large white accusing eyes are those pillows.  I look the other way.

Something like this...

Is it just me or does this type of thing happen to you too?

I drive myself crazy doing this. Sometimes I have several things going at once and can’t remember how I ended up from washing dishes to refilling the candle holders in a span of 5 minutes! I am just too easily distracted by clutter, sigh…

I’m exactly the same way, hubby will come in and say, what are you doing? Folding clothes, I thought you were doing dishes? Yes I was, but then I needed a dishtowel and realized there were some in the dryer so I came in here and now I’m folding laundry….LOL
