Today we celebrate three birthdays in our household, yes you read that right, three. And I had no time to plan for them. I take that back, I had one day to prepare for it. Last night around eight Carter was using some extreme bedtime avoidance techniques when he came out dragging his stuffed snake behind him. He simply had to inform me that the following day was Snake’s birthday. He would be turning eleven. I told him that was nice to know and that he better go back to bed as it was sure to be a busy day, with the party and all.
This morning he had not forgotten. In fact it came out that not only was it Snake’s birthday but it was also Zebra’s and Thomas Blanket’s as well. Who knew blankets had birthdays? I guess you learn something new everyday.
I need not have worried about having no time to plan, Carter did it all. The party was held at high noon in the boys’ bedroom. He arranged for all the guests’ transportation. He baked a strawberry cake – notice the blue and green pillow in the center of the animals, that would be the cake. The brightly colored bowling pins served as soda. Oh and just so you know, Snake’s blue soda is not blueberry flavored as you might think. I took a drink from it and was then informed amidst giggles that it was actually mouse flavored soda.
The guests gathered, gifts were opened. Zebra was delighted to get a book about trucks, Snake was happy with his new toy and Carter informed me that blankets don’t like gifts.
The cake and berry flavored soda was served. We sang the Happy Birthday song and there was even entertainment as I was requested to do a dramatic reading of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham. During the reading, Snake had to be spoken to and was almost placed in time out several times for his over exuberance every time the word “mouse” was mentioned in the book.
Other than Snake’s behavior during the entertainment and Zebra’s overindulgence of his raspberry soda which resulted in a tummy ache, fun was had by all. I was impressed with Carter’s ability to pull off such a smashing success of a party with only half a days notice. Perhaps he has a future in party planning.
Love it! Kids have the best imagination. Mouse flavored soda!
They really do – had that soda been real I would have been spitting it out from laughing so hard. Well, from that and the mouse flavor.
Sounds like a rpcking party. You are lucky you scored an invitation.
I know, I am glad I still get invitations to such events.
What a great lovey collection and celebration!
It was quite the party!
Sounds like a good time!
I had fun. I am not too sure if Thomas Blanket did though as he tends to keep his emotions under covers.
That silly Snake…pretty hard to keep one of ’em down when you mention the word ‘mouse’. WHat a great party!!
I guess we were asking for it, reading a book with a mouse in it to a snake hopped up on sugary cake and soda. 🙂
Oh, this is so awesome! Go Carter!! I adore these kind of parties! At my next party I’m going to try throwing a pillow on the table and see how it goes over!!!
Well if your party guests don’t swoon with joy over your pillow cake, then you have invited the wrong type of guest. Fill the dining room chairs with stuffed animals and they will be sure to enjoy it.
That’s brilliant! I threw a birthday party for Alpine Boy just before Christmas and have sworn never to do it again. Alpine Boy is set on a fifth birthday party though – do you think Carter would plan it for us? 😉
Absolutely! I bet Carter could put together a steller robot or monster themed party for Alpine Boy. If you are planning to invite guests that actually eat, might I suggest you also hire an independent caterer.
Angel hasn’t graduated to Birthday Parties yet…just tea with The Babies 🙂
Love to watch their imaginations bloom and grow…
We skipped the tea parties completely, going straight to the full on birthday parties. Such fun!
So when will this mouse flavored pop be on the market? My cats would like to know! And does it require refrigeration?
We are having a hard time getting it pushed through quality control, they keep mumbling about the small mouse bones and occasional tufts of gray fur found in the drink. We will be sure to let your cats know when we get that all ironed out and it becomes available on the market.
And yes it does require refrigeration once it has been opened, but I have been told that it tastes better slightly chilled anyway. Wine cellar, no, this is my mouse flavored soda cellar and this bottle of 2004 mouselot is a great year! 😉
Anything for my cats!! , tufts of fir ey? Well I would try a combing device. I have no bone advice. They are very excited as you can imagine!
So cute! And such imagination! I hope Snake behaves better for the next Dr. Seuss book reading! 🙂
I think this birthday party thing will be around for a while. Today is Dinosaur’s birthday. Carter make snap block lollipops for the guests and we read Dr. Seuss’s The Foot Book. Snake was indifferent probably because not only did it have no mice but it was about feet, which Snake does not have.
Precious!
Yes he is! I love that sweet boy.
We have a family wedding coming up, maybe carter can take over! He and his entourage could manage a little old wedding in a snap, think of how much we can save on the catering when everyone has to use their imaginations.. c
Mmmm, I don’t know if Carter would be willing to take on a wedding, he really likes singing the Happy Birthday song. I am sure we can provide some throw pillow cakes and empty toilet paper rolls drinks and I imagine, just for you, we could color those empty rolls to match the wedding colors the bride has in mind with our washable markers.
Your boys really do have awesome imaginations. I commend you for encouraging them, as they are awesome things to have!
What an absolutely fabulous imagination Carter has! I can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with next. 🙂
